Thursday thoughts!

30/4/2020

Good morning all,

I'm going to have to stop uploading video messages for a few days, until the website gets the problem sorted out! Don't miss my face too much!
So the excitement of having the school on television has died down and we are back to normal doing food package deliveries and collections today, so it's busy busy busy! The good thing is that this week we are providing a double pack, so we can take the week off next week. That will be a HUGE help because it takes up a lot of time each week trying to organise everything.

The weather is pretty miserable today isn't it! I was feeling a bit tired this morning so I didn't make it to the park like I normally would. I'll see if it brightens up a bit later and then I'll head out for a stroll. I was in the post office yesterday and had to post all the staff some very important packages. Each package weighed a different amount, so the poor postwoman was weighing them and sticking stamps on them for about half and hour! When I eventually left the queue outside was so long.... they weren't too happy with me!

I'm going to announce my senses treasure hunt winners tomorrow, so this is your last chance to get your entries in- it might be a nice idea to do it today if you can't go out for a walk in the rain! I'm getting a special survey ready for you to complete so you can give us your feedback on the website and the work we are sending home etc.

Slán,
Ms Greene

Mid-week greetings!

Oh girls, there is some major issue uploading videos at the moment! I'll try again in the morning! The link is below for the programme the school was on last night!

OLV on TV

28/4/2020

Dear Parents and Students,

I have recorded a video message that I have been trying to upload since this morning, but there appears to be an issue with weebly, our hosting site, at the moment. I am currently setting up a school YouTube channel (what have I become!), so if possible I will get it uploaded there at some point today and I will send you the link to view it!

I have very exciting news to report- OLV Girls' School will feature in a small way on RTE 1's Prime Time this evening, They were on site filming some areas of the school which might pose a challenge in returning to school in a safe way e.g. corridors that are only 1.5m wide etc. But as I mention in my video message, it is my strong belief that none of these challenges are insurmountable and I look forward to the day when we can welcome you all back safely to the school.

Students, please make sure you are checking my blog and your teachers blogs every day! I hope I can get the video loaded later today, so please check back.
Slán,
Ms Greene

Just another Manic Monday!

Hi girls!

I bet if you called out the title of today's blog your mam or dad would be able to sing you the tune! So yes I've had another very busy day here- and it's not over yet. I still have lots to do but it keeps me distracted, so I'm delighted I've so much to keep me going!

Well I had a fantastic start to the weekend when I was doing a few food package deliveries and a few house calls on Friday- I GOT AN EASTER EGG!!!!!! I was so excited! The lovely family I was visiting (from a safe distance) had seen my blog post about Tesco being sold out of eggs where I live, and they bought me one as a special treat! You won't be surprised to hear that there is nothing left!

Our 2nd class and 6th class girls got a bit of sad news today- their Communion and Confirmation has been cancelled. I can imagine that there are some very disappointed girls reading this today, but we have to make sure everybody is safe, and at the moment we just couldn't be sure of that if we all gathered in a big crowd. But like Fr Frank and Jo said in their message, please God we will be able to celebrate in smaller groups over the summer.

I've a very special message today to all our Muslim students- Ramadan Mubarak to you all and all your families, from your OLV family!

Don't forget about my treasure hunt challenge! You still have a few days to complete it.
Slán,
Ms Greene

It's the weekend! Here's a fun challenge for all the family!

24/4/2020

Good morning ladies!
I hope you are having a good morning. Guess who I saw today!! All your teachers! We had a staff meeting on Zoom just now and it was great to see everyone. We have come up with some great new ideas about keeping in touch with you all, so watch this space! Can you guess from who is missing from the photo because they were having internet problems this morning?

Now my challenge for the weekend is another Treasure Hunt- but this one is slightly different. This one is all about using your senses! Take a photo of all the items you find and send it to me at [email protected]. I can't wait to see your faces for the tasting and smelling parts!

Senses Treasure Hunt:
Find something that.......
  1. Makes a crunching sound
  2. Tastes sour
  3. Smells delicious
  4. Feels rough
  5. Looks cute
  6. Makes a loud sound
  7. Tastes sweet
  8. Smells awful
  9. Feels smooth
  10. Looks scary

Have fun girls!!!
Slán,
Ms Greene

Hi girls,

I can't believe I missed a day- that will tell you how busy I was yesterday. My mobile and the school mobile never stopped ringing and beeping, the emails were coming in by the dozen and I was in a whizz all day! But what cheered me up and kept me going all day was seeing your entries for the challenge! I got so many entries I had to pick lots of winners.... well done girls AND Ms Farrell-McCabe!!!! New challenge coming tomorrow!

Happy Tuesday girls!

Hi ladies!

Well what a day I had yesterday! The electricity went all over Dublin 7 because a truck crashed into a lamppost! There was panic stations here I'm not going to lie- I was so busy and had so much work to do! I had to get into my car to charge my phone at one point. Anyway, it all worked out in the end- the electricity came back at about 4pm and the truck driver wasn't injured, thank goodness.

So today I have all my emails to catch up on, forms to send and I have loads and loads of you answer in the comments of my blog posts- I have read them all I promise, and I love getting them, I just haven't had a minute to answer!

Get up and get moving girls- you'll feel so much better and be able to concentrate on your work more. One more day to enter my art challenge- see the post underneath yesterday's video if you're not sure what to do!

Slán,
Ms Greene

Easter News and a NEW Challenge

15/4/2020

Hi ladies,

I hope you are all keeping well since my last video message. Later that day we heard the news that schools are closed 'until further' notice. This made me really sad....I wish they could give us a date to look forward to, but unfortunately that just isn't possible at the moment. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed and saying prayers every day, that if everyone sticks to the rules for the next three weeks we'll be back in school in May. Keep following all the rules guys! The only way we'll see each other before the summer is if we work as team and do it together! Go team OLV!

My Easter was ok but I really missed my family and friends. And also my local Tesco ran out of Easter eggs!!! So all I got was a bar of chocolate! I will definitely make up for it next year.

We have been very busy trying to organise food packs for families from OLV over the last few weeks. Your parents might have told you that we had a bit of a disaster with An Post last week. They didn't expect so many packages to land in their depots and they couldn't deliver all the packages we needed them to. So from now on the staff of the schools are going to deliver them to families and organise the school car park as a collection point. Each school is taking it in turns and this week, it's OUR turn! So you never know who might be knocking on your door to deliver your package or who you will see if you are in the car collecting with your family!
Ms Brennan found a lovely challenge for you. Have a look at the video below and see does it inspire you- use a part of a plant or tree to make another picture. Now girls, whatever you do, do NOT go pulling off all the flower heads in your mothers garden or on her balcony! Your mammies will be fit to kill me if you do! Ask her to help you pick one or two that might work. I'm going to try it out too- but I will warn you.... I am pretty useless at art! Some of the teachers might join in with this one too!

Ok, I'm off to work on the delivery routes for the food packages!
Slan cailíní,
Ms Greene
