Communion Update 2nd September
Update for the First Holy Communions: OLV Girls National School
Greetings to you all. I hope that you are looking forward to celebrating First Holy Communion with your child on Saturday the 18th of September. The good news is that with the latest government announcement we don’t have to have two separate ceremonies. The Communions will now take place on the same day but at 11.30 am for both classes.
So for those of you who were due to the church for 10.00 am you now have a later start and for those of you due for 12 noon, well your start will be a little bit earlier.
So both communions now at 11.30 am.
Please note we still have to observe the necessary policies, i.e.
Each child is allowed to bring two adults with them
(children/siblings can of course attend)
Face coverings to be worn at all times by anyone over 12 years of age.
Social distancing to be maintained.
Hand sanitizing.
No choirs.
Everyone to remain in their seats before and during the ceremony.
Looking forward to the day,
Fr Frank and Jo

Final Newsletter before 31st August reopening
Dear Parents,
We are very excited about seeing our wonderful girls and all our new students for the 2021/22 school year on Tuesday 31st August.
I have attached the Updated Covid Response Plan which I urge you all to read through carefully. If you are new to our school it is very important that you read this document, as it may be different to your child's previous school. It is also available here on our website- http://www.olvgns.ie/back-to-school-202122.html. The most up-to-date HSE isolation guidelines that will be applicable to children in this school year, are available here- https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/guidance/educationguidance/Isolation%20quick%20guide%20under%2013s.pdf.
As you will see in the plan we will continue to have staggered opening and closing times, and parents must leave and collect their child at the school pedestrian gate- there is no entrance to the senior school yard for parents/guardians:
2nd and 3rd classes: 8.40pm-2.20pm
4th, 5th and 6th classes: 8.45am-2.25pm
We hugely encourage cycling or scooting to school. We received bike racks from Dublin County Council last year with capacity for 60 bikes/scooters- we would love to see them full every day.
Before your child starts school next week, it is vitally important that we know what your plans are for collection time- will she be collected by you, if so where? will she make her own way home, get the bus etc. You must complete the following form to let us know what these plans are, and you must discuss these plans with your child. If they change at any time please inform the school immediately. Click here for form- https://forms.gle/KkZ1226p3Az35FVT8
Reminder that Book Rental Fees of €125 per child/€100 per sister should be paid in full by Friday 10th September 2021. All books, copies and stationary will be provided to children whose fees are paid. Booklists are available on the Back to School page of our website for those who do not wish to pay fees. As mentioned, all students will need a school bag, pencil case with colours and a water bottle this year.
A free healthy lunch will be provided by Glanmore Food for each child. This lunch should be sufficient for your daughter, however if you wish to send in extra or alternative food please make sure your child has their own lunchbox.
You have all received information regarding you child's teacher for the coming school year- if you did not receive the text on Wednesday, please phone the office. It will take time for your daughter to settle back into the routine of the school and get to know her new teacher. It will also take the teachers time to settle in with their new classes. If there are any concerns or queries please do not hesitate to get in touch with your daughter's class teacher, she will be emailing you on Monday to introduce herself. You can also ring the office to request a call back from her. A gentle reminder that the procedure for dealing with issues in the school always starts with the class teacher. Phone calls to the office requesting to speak to me, will always be passed on to the class teacher first, unless it is a personal issue from home you wish to inform the school of. Also a reminder that our HSCL teacher Claire Thomas is always available to provide a listening ear and support. She can be reached on 0874152165.
I hope you enjoy the last days of the summer holidays together and I look forward to another year working together.

Back to School Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We are receiving a number of queries regarding the new school year. Please read the information below- it is the most up-to-date information we currently have to hand.
School Re-opening Date: Tuesday 31st August 2021, time TBC
Supplies needed for returning to school: All children will need a school bag, pencil case, twistables or colouring pencils and a water bottle this year. We found the lack of schoolbags very difficult last year- homework was tricky to manage, there was a huge increase in food waste and communication between parents and teachers all had to be done via phone or email. All other supplies (homework journal. copies, pencils, pens etc) will be provided to the children when book rental has been paid.
Book Rental: Total owed: €125 per student, or €100 per sister. Last year 25% of our families did not pay book rental fees. I was completely shocked by this, as I have prioritised lowering the costs of your child's schooling since becoming principal. It has left the school accounts very stretched, and for this reason teachers will not give your daughter books, readers, workbooks, copies, stationary etc. until her book rental fees have been paid. If you do not intend paying these fees, please make sure you have all her books and stationary covered and labelled in her school bag on 31st August, and her teacher will also give you a list of copies to buy- booklists are available on the school website. Fees can be paid online via www.databizsolutions.ie or by cash to the school office.
School Uniforms and Tracksuits: We do not supply any uniforms or tracksuits in the school. Uniforms can be purchased in any high-street shop: grey skirt/dress with white shirt, wine jumper and white socks. The school tracksuit can be purchased from O Farrell Schoolwear in Swords for €30, or online here- https://www.ofarrellschoolwear.com/index.php/schools/primary/our-lady-of-victories-girls-n-s.html
Class teachers and SNAs: We will inform parents of class teacher and SNA allocations during the week of 23rd August 2021, following interviews.
Summer Camp for 6th Class 2021: We will be in touch with details next week for those of you who have put your daughter's name down. It will run for the week of 23rd August, and no uniforms will be required.
Communion 18th September 2021: Currently, we have no reason to believe this will not go ahead, however as you have seen in recent weeks, this could change in an instant. Unfortunately Fr Frank has had to cancel the Confirmation planned for late August.
Covid19 Procedures in Schools: We are awaiting clarification from the Department of Education re what procedures will be needed in school for the beginning of the 2021/22 school year. I will communicate these with you as soon as possible.
Children returning to Ireland from abroad: All information can be found here- https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/travel_to_ireland/travel_to_ireland_during_covid.html#ld2a15
I hope this has answered any queries you may have and has helped you to plan for the return to school in a few weeks time. The school office will be open from 23rd August 2021. Please do not hesitate to get in touch via email if you have any queries in the meantime- myself and Ms Durnin will be checking the inbox.
I hope you have managed to spend some quality time together over the summer and that the girls have been keeping up with their reading!
I am really looking forward to seeing all our wonderful pupils again, and welcoming our new girls into the OLV Girls' School family.
Kind regards,
