Here's the content for this week:
1st and 2nd Class
One of our most popular and fun performance pieces at DabbledooMusic is John Ryan's polka. All you need to do is choose a colour and join in by following the bouncing ball. You'll recognise this polka by it's distinctive "beep beep" rhythm.
If your children have already played this in school, they can show you how it works!
GO TO IRISH POLKA ACTIVITY
3rd and 4th Class
Kraftwerk are one of the most important electronic artists in music. They are like The Beatles of electronic music! Learn about the band and their songs and perform a very special performance piece.
Choose a colour and play along with whatever sounds or instruments you have!
GO TO THE KRAFTWERK PROFILE
5th and 6th Class
The uilleann pipes are a uniquely Irish instrument with an incredible sound. In these video lessons, Joe Mc Kenna will show you how they work and you will get to identify all the parts of the instruments on special worksheets.
You can also learn the difference between Jigs and Reels, and listen to the famous "Foxchase" piece.

ART AND DRAMA RESOURCES:
Week beginning 5th May 2020: Choose one or two activities from this list that you haven't done yet!
1. Back-and-Forth Drawing Game for Kids
Take turns adding to a collaborative drawing. Place pencil on a page and move forward and backwards without lifting pencil from the page. When the page is complete, colour any image that you see from the squiggles and lines on the page. Work in pairs or on your own.
2. https://kidmons.com/game/paint-online
Paint online is the perfect video game for kids that are fond of drawing and painting.
3. A Brush with Wildlife Look out your window and see the wildlife. Is it a bird, a dog, a fox, a spider, a worm? What do you see? Now create a home for this animal or insect using leaves, twigs, flowers, grass or anything you can find.
4. Toilet roll Craft.
This imagination project involves creating a means of transport. For example, make a bus, car, aeroplane, or a truck. You will need glue, scissors crayons/paints to decorate.
5. Elements of Art and Memory Game
The “Elements of Art” are like the “building blocks” from which a piece of art is made; the “alphabet” of the visual world:
Place some item/objects on a tray. Ask your child/children to look at the objects for a couple of minutes. Do not discuss or say the name of the objects. Take the tray away and ask them to draw each object that they can remember.
Example of items:
· Line – (wire) lines can be straight, curvy, zig zag, etc.
· Shape – (star cookie cutter) an area enclosed by a line or an edge, 2-dimensional, can be geometric or organic
· Form – (orange) 3-dimensional, having volume and mass
· Colour – (paint chip) the hue of an object (red, blue, yellow, etc.)
· Texture – (sand paper) the surface quality, how something feels, or how it looks like it would feel (visual texture)
· Space – (tape measure) the illusion of distance or depth created with shading and/or perspective, or the actual space that something occupies.
· Balance – (skate board wheel) the distribution of “visual weight” by the arrangement of elements; balance may be symmetrical (formal) or asymmetrical (informal)
· Movement – (eye glasses) the visual path that a viewer’s eyes follow across a work of art, also the implied movement of lines: horizontal (calm and still), vertical (strong, at attention) and diagonal (action) lines
· Rhythm – (drum stick) the repetition of elements in a work of art; rhythm and movement work together to create a visual “beat”
· to create harmony
6. Have fun with Drama

7. Stems/ Flowers/Twig Craft
Nature can create the most beautiful picture ever. So, create a magical picture by using twigs, stems, leaves and use the wild flowers to add colour.
8. Draw what you love!
This can be a daily task. The idea is that you draw someone you love, doing something they love. For example, it can be your nana knitting, or your dog chasing squirrels, your mum cooking, or your cat cleaning it’s fur. Whatever it is, draw it! It will make a lovely picture journal of all the lovely things that you see all the time and want to remember.

Week beginning 11th May 2020: Choose one or two activities from this list that you haven't done yet!
1. The Scribble Drawing Game
Players use a quick scribble as a drawing prompt. Does the scribble remind you of a duck, a face, a castle? Work in pairs or on your own.
2. Calligraphy - https://tinkerlab.com/introduce-kids-calligraphy/
Introduce a child to calligraphy, and you’ll open them up to a world of penmanship. Design your own card with this special writing.
3. Virtual Vacation Destination
Imagine somewhere you’d like to go. It can be anywhere; the ocean, under the ocean, the top of a mountain, the forest, a big city, an amusement park, the rainforest, even another planet. What kinds of things would you like to see and do in these places? What kind of food will you eat? What sounds will you hear? What will the air smell like? Get as detailed as you want to get. Look up pictures of this place, or places like it online and print out the pictures. Paint, draw, or tell a story about these places and specific things about these places. Post these pictures in a special place on the wall where your family can see them.
4. Jar Decoration
Take an empty jar and make a fancy storage jar for your own special items. You can use small pieces of paper and stick them to the jar using as many colours as possible. This will make a beautiful collage jar or use bits of materials, string, beads. Anything you have at home can be used to decorate your jar. Or you can just paint it in one colour or many colours and make a rainbow jar.
5. Rice/pasta picture
Draw a picture of a house and garden. Use the rice and pasta to fill in the picture. Long pieces of pasta can help with the trees and curly pasta can be the leaves. The rice can be used to cover the wall of the house etc. You can colour it all in by using food colouring.
6. Can you guess the Pixar Movie?
https://youtu.be/_Db5DDXJOa8
This is a really easy activity, all you need is a few minutes, great listening power and maybe close your eyes to see if it helps to remember! Parents, you could give the kids a pen and paper and see who got the most amount of answers right. Maybe the ones that the kids don’t recognise could go on a list for a ‘movie night’.
7. Lunch Doodles.
https://youtu.be/MjaYnyCJDdU
This is a wonderful series set up by an artist that is also stuck inside at the moment! Follow along daily to draw together, chat about doodling and learn some new tricks for drawing and colouring. Great for the younger classes that love drawing and creating art in the time it takes to eat your lunch!
8. Exploring Sounds Vocal Sounds – PDST
www.pdst.ie
9. Water Colour Doodles with tread or string.
Place any number of blobs of different colour paint on the paper. Place two to three pieces of string at the top of the page and let them run to the end of the page. Now fold over the page making sure that you have the ends of the strings showing. Slowly pull one string at a time until all strings are removed from the page. Open the page to reveal a fantastic piece of art.
