Thursday 18th June: Ms Ferriter's History Activity
Hi girls!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LQl1wmEKCbA
History is one of my favourite subjects. I love learning about the past, both in Ireland and around the world! It is so important that we know about how our country came to be what it is today. One of the biggest events in Ireland’s history was the 1916 Rising. I’m sure a lot of you have read about it in school. Today I’ve included the link to a short video that a 2 nd class from another school made all about the Rising. It also includes information about the role of women during this time – Girl Power! Imagine what it would be like living through the Rising.Maybe you could pretend you were one of those women and write a letter to your cousin in America, telling him or her all about what was happening in Ireland at the time. Above all, enjoy watching the video!

Monday 22nd June: Ms Cassidy's Music Activity
Myleene Klass-Youtube-
'The one where we make our own instruments and learn how to drum'
Let's make our own Music - OLV Style!!
Music is all around us
You don’t need an instrument when you can just find one in the kitchen! Today using the video above made by Myleene Klass we will learn to play kitchen instruments, drum out basic paradiddles and form a rhythm band. Bring your chopsticks and wooden spoons!
This is a very noisy activity so perhaps it might be best to set up your instruments in your room!
Have fun!
Don't forget to email a short video clip of your origional rhythmic composition to you class teacher!

- There must be one jump e,g jump into a hoop
- There must be two ways of travelling e.g running and crawling or hopping and side-stepping
- There must be one balance e.g stand on one foot for 5 seconds or walk along a thin line.

Wednesday 24th June: Ms Behan's Science Activity
Hi girls!
Let’s have a look at how a really important part of our body works – our stomach!
Our stomach is part of our digestive system. Our digestive system turns the delicious food we eat into the vitamins and minerals we need to stay healthy! To do that, it needs to break down the food we put into our bodies. Let’s investigate how this happens!
Today we’re going to make our own mini stomach and watch how the food changes!
You’ll need these 3 things:
The plastic lunch bag is our stomach for our investigation, the crackers/bread is the food we’ve eaten and the fizzy drink is the acid in our stomach.
Now follow these steps:
Now you’ve seen what happens to the food you put into your body! This isn’t the end of your food’s journey, it still has to go through a few more steps for your body to get all of the vitamins and minerals it needs.
I hope you enjoyed investigating how your stomach works!

Today we’re going to make our own mini stomach and watch how the food changes!
You’ll need these 3 things:
- See through lunch bag
- Crackers or bread
- Fizzy drink – it can be any fizzy drink but one with no colour works the best!
The plastic lunch bag is our stomach for our investigation, the crackers/bread is the food we’ve eaten and the fizzy drink is the acid in our stomach.
Now follow these steps:
- Put the crackers/bread into the stomach (the lunch bag). Let’s break it up into smaller pieces now with our fingers. This is like what happens when you chew your food! You can do this inside or through the bag so it doesn’t get too messy.
- Very carefully (you should ask a grown up or older brother or sister to help) pour a small glass of your fizzy drink into the bag.
- CLOSE THE BAG. This is so important! You don’t want to spill what’s in the bag!!!
- Now start mashing the food up with the fizzy drink! This is just like what happens to the food in your stomach when it meets your stomach acid!
- Watch carefully and see how the food changes!
- Take a picture of your investigation and send it to your teacher! If you can’t take a picture, draw a picture of it into your copy.
Now you’ve seen what happens to the food you put into your body! This isn’t the end of your food’s journey, it still has to go through a few more steps for your body to get all of the vitamins and minerals it needs.
I hope you enjoyed investigating how your stomach works!
Thursday 25th June: Ms Holden's Art Activity
Art Idea: Construction
Materials: jelly beans sweets and spaghetti.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an architect? Why don't you try to construct your own creation? All you need are some spaghetti strips and jelly beans. Slightly bend the uncooked spaghetti and stick into the jelly beans until you have made a 3D exhibit.
You can create as big or small a structure as you want.
Conclusion: How did you get on? What, if anything, would you change if making this again?
Have fun!
