I've got that Friday feeling and 'Walk for Niall' challenge

Good morning to you all!

Girls, what another beautiful day outside! I think someone is looking down on us all during this terribly difficult time and making sure we are all keeping our spirits up because of the wonderful weather. Get your head into a book for a little while- whatever your parents decide, and then get out into the fresh air- turn off the telly, computer, iPads and go and breath in some fresh air, but make sure you wear suncream!

Ok so the challenge for the weekend is to 'Walk for Niall'. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, have a look down the blog for my latest video and you will hear all about it. All the families that sends a picture of themselves or their view on the walk to the school phone (still only taking What's App texts!), or posts it to Ms Thomas on the HSCL Facebook page, will be entered into a draw for a special family prize of....... a €20 McDonald's voucher!!! Don't forget to wear blue for Ms Durnin!!!

28/5/2020

Good morning girls,

Well myself and the staff had such fun last night revealing the Staff Fun Facts! Ms Rooney was the winner getting nine correct and Ms Haughton came second with eight correct. I won't have time this morning to make a little video to tell you some of the stories, but I will do it as soon as I can- some of them are hilariuos! I have to meet the two 5th classes on Zoom, do some food deliveries and then attend a principal's meeting on another Zoom call, so it's a very busy day today!

Here are the answers:
  1. Who has seen three of the seven wonders of the world, and was supposed to see a fourth this year but unfortunately due to the Covid 19 pandemic, had to cancel the trip? Ms Fleming
  2. Who starred in three episodes of the tv programme ‘Aifric’ on TG4? MS Cassidy
  3. Who matches the colour of her glasses to the colour of her clothes she wears to school every day? Ms Brennan
  4. Who has a crooked baby finger on her right hand? Ms Farrell
  5. Who had an article written about them aged 10, that took up the whole front page of their local newspaper? Ms Farrell-McCabe
  6. Who started school aged 3, in a buggy, with a broken leg? Ms Greene
  7. Who has a phobia about Daddy Long Legs getting tangled in her hair? Ms Bourke
  8. Who has appeared on both Ireland AM and Good Morning America? Ms Haughton
  9. Who thought only wealthy people had brown eyes when they were a little girl? Ms Holden
  10. Who has a pet rock, that lives in a coconut? Ms Behan
  11. Who has done a parachute jump? Ms Fitzpatrick
  12. Who once cycled their bike straight into a parked car and sprained their ankle? Ms Hanly
  13. Who has had two close encounters with sharks whilst swimming in the sea? Ms Malone
  14. Who can do a headstand? Ms O Dea
  15. Who, in her early days of teaching in OLV before smart phones were invented, got locked into the school one afternoon and had to be rescued by the caretaker? Ms Callinan
  16. Who has represented Ulster in the Under 8 100m sprint? Ms Thomas
  17. Who once fed a brown bear honey? Ms Smith
  18. Who once fainted and fell into a bath of fish? Ms Rooney
  19. Who has a brown belt in karate? Jackie

And the winners are......... it was a DRAW!!!! Two €20 Just Eat vouchers are on the way to Amelia in Room 4 and Lorena in Room 2!!!!!! Well done girls!!

STRICT INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE PRINCIPAL TODAY
I have a funny feeling that if we were still in school today and they had predicted temperatures to hit 22-26, we would have organised something fun to do like a trip to the park. So only do a teeny tiny bit of English, Irish and Maths today- don't worry about getting in trouble, it's principal's orders! Get out and enjoy the day- that goes for the staff too!

Slán gach duine,
Ms Greene

Good morning all,

We have another beautiful day out there girls so get moving on your work as soon as you can, so you can get out into the sunshine! I have to pop into the school today for a quick meeting about finally getting our PE equipment storage organised a little better. I bet if you all close your eyes you can picture the MESS under the stairs beside my office. So fingers crossed the plans I have for using the space in a better way will work out.

Tonight I'm having a Zoom call with the teachers to reveal the answers to the 'Staff Fun Facts' challenge that I set on Friday. I can't wait to see if anyone gets my 'fun fact' right! And I don't think I've seen it correct on any of the entries I've received from you girls! All will be revealed tomorrow.

Another exciting thing that is happening is that the 5th Class girls are having their first Zoom assembly with me and all their teachers tomorrow morning. I can't wait to see them all and have a chat! I'm guessing that they will all have grown a few inches, and there might even be a few more freckles on their noses from being out in the sun.

4th, 3rd and 2nd please don't worry- I'm going to be organising assemblies for you too very soon. There is a lot of paperwork, emailing and administration involved and if we tried to get all the classes organised at the same time, poor Ms Durnin would be in a tizzy!

Ok girls, get moving on the work so you can enjoy the weather!

Sunny Monday morning greetings!

Good morning ladies,

Well what a beautiful morning it is! I'm back in the school again today because a few of the teachers have to sort out a bit of paperwork for our 6th class girls moving to secondary school. It will be great to see them in person, instead of via a Zoom call.

It was a beautiful day yesterday as well. I hope you all managed to get some fresh air and to play out in the sunshine for a while. I went on a lovely walk in the Phoenix Park and stopped off in a sunny spot to read my book for a little while.

We had a lovely Zoom call with the 6th Class girls on Friday. It was so great to see them all- they all looked very grown up, and it was strange to see them in their normal clothes with their hair down! Their teachers are going to be working on a special programme with them over the next few weeks, getting them prepared for the transition to secondary school.

Ok ladies, time to get down to work here!

Windy morning greetings and the BEST challenge EVER!

Well hello there ladies,

I nearly got blown away this morning on my walk in the Phoenix Park! But we can't complain, we have had such wonderful weather since the school has been closed, and by all accounts Sunday is going to be a beautiful day so we have that to look forward to!

I also have something else to look forward to this morning- my first Zoom assembly with the 6th Class girls! I can't wait to see them all and have a great chat. It will only be for about 15 or 20 minutes, but it should be great fun. All the teachers who are involved with 6th Class will be there too. If it goes well this morning, I will be in touch with the rest of the classes over the next couple of weeks to get assemblies organised. So keep your fingers crossed that we don't have any blips today!

GUESS THE STAFF MEMBER CHALLENGE
Ok girls I have the BEST challenge EVER! I asked the staff to tell me an interesting fact about themselves and you have to try and guess which staff members matches with each fact. Some of them are so funny (now!), I was laughing all day yesterday when I was getting this prepared- in fact I even cried laughing at one point last night.

If some of the girls from 2nd class might not be too sure who all the teachers are, they could look at the video we made to remind themselves. I have a funny feeling the 6th Class girls might know a lot of the answers.

The prize for the family that gets the most correct is......... a €20 Just Eat voucher, so get your thinking caps on! Send me your guesses by What's App to 0861805158 by 8pm on Sunday night. Make sure you number the guesses and you sign off with your name, in case you are using a phone number I don't have saved.

Good luck!!! I will be posting a video with the answers, and maybe some funny stories to explain them next week!
Slán,
Ms Greene

Thursday sunshine and challenge winners!!

Good morning ladies,

After another busy day at work, I had such a lovely evening yesterday. I walked down to see one of my friends who lives within my 5km radius and sat in the sunshine in her back garden for a lovely chat! It was so great to be in the company of other people again, but it did feel a little bit strange not being able to give her and her family big hugs! Her little boy is only three, and we were worried that he wouldn't understand that he would have to stay 2 metres away from me, but he was so good!! He stayed at one end of the table playing with all his cars and I was able to have a great chat with him.

I got some absolutely AMAZING entries into my art challenge- it was nearly impossible to judge this one! But well done to Ruby, Alice (I had to pick two of yours they were so good!), Martha and Natalia. Beautiful work ladies- a lot better than my efforts! I'm going to get my thinking cap on for this weekends challenge.... I think I might ask the teachers for a bit of help with the next one!

Get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Back in the school again today!

Good morning ladies,

Well I'm back in our lovely school doing some work with Ms Durnin and the SNAs to help our wonderful 6th class girls. I'm sure all of you can't even begin to imagine how they are feeling about never coming back to our school, and starting in a new secondary school in September or October. We are going to try and do everything we can do to help them over the next few weeks. The first thing we have organised for them is a Zoom assembly on Friday morning. If that goes well we will be able to start having Zoom assemblies for every class!

I'm also getting a lot of calls from the parents of children in 1st class in the Infant School, because they are worried about their children moving to a new schools. Can you remember back to how you felt when you were leaving the Infant School and moving over to the Girls' School? I was a pretty worrying time for a lot of you, but we were able to give you a tour of the school and have a special meeting for our parents. So at the moment I'm trying to plan what we might do for those girls and their parents over the next few weeks.

But don't worry ladies, I haven't forgotten about all of you! I love reading all your messages on all the blogs and I love getting photo messages and emails from your parents about all the work you are doing.

Keep working hard girls!
Slán,
Ms Greene

Good morning ladies,

The website was being a bit funky this morning and I was having difficulty getting into my blog! Anyway I'm here now, working at home because none of the staff need to go in to the school today. A few of the teachers and the SNAs have to come in tomorrow to get working on some important documents for the 6th class girls about transitioning to their secondary school.

I had a special Zoom meeting with the 6th class teachers, Ms Thomas and Ms Fleming and we have lots of plans put in place for the 6th class girls over the next couple of months. The most important thing is that your parents keep an eye on their email inbox over the next couple of days. We have eventually managed to get our email facility set up, so we will be using that a lot more.

I am getting some fabulous entries for my art challenge- there are some very talented girls in our school! Also I got sent some fabulous 'Happy Walls' that you had made yesterday after Ms Callinan set the first Well- being daily task! Have you seen Ms Cassidy's task today? Don't forget to check it out every day- its right here!

Ok ladies, I'm off to answer calls, emails and type for the day!

Monday morning in a very quiet school!

Good morning ladies,

This morning I am typing my message to you from my office in school. A few of the teachers need to pick up some of their books and notes so they can continue to work from home. But it is a very quiet place. I've taken a little video so you can see what it's like- the only thing you can hear are my squeaky shoes and the clock ticking on the wall.

So we have set out the new plans of work for you all and they can be found here. It's important to remember that if you attend one of the support teachers for maths or english, then that is the work you should concentrate on doing, instead of the maths or english your class teacher might have set.

We have also added another exciting thing for you to do every day- and these are going to be lovely things to work on, nothing to get stressed about at all- in fact they are all about helping your well-being. Each day a different teacher is going to set a task to help you deal with everything that's going on in the world right now. Ms Callinan has kicked it off with a gorgeous task all about happiness- take a look at it here.

So now you have four jobs to do every day for the next two weeks: check in with me here to see if I have any news for you, check your class blog to see what your teachers are up to, or to ask any questions, check the well-being daily task and then finally get down to some hard work!

Ok ladies, I've got to go and do some work here!
Slán,
Ms Greene
