My food art challenge attempt.....

31/3/2020

Well ladies, how are we all?

I went for a run this morning in the Phoenix Park again and luckily enough I can still give our lovely president Michael D Higgins a wave every day, because Áras an Úachtaráin is just inside a 2km distance from my house. Have your parents shown you the 2km distance from your house yet? There's a great website created by an Irish person that will help you figure out where you can go- https://2kmfromhome.com/ Who knows... you might need that website for one of the challenges that I have coming up!

So I tried the food art challenge and it wasn't very good- but look I tried my best! I tried to make a clown face out of my lunch bagel.... I probably should have used some lettuce for hair, and I should have given him some ears too! Oh well! I've received loads of amazing entries so far- I'm going to pick my favourites tonight so you still have a few hours to get your entries in!

I've lots of work to do here this morning because the lovely Ms Hickey from the Boys' School dropped the school post over to my house yesterday. She had to fling it in the door to me and I had to fling a bunch of keys over to her- it was really funny- even my neighbours were laughing at us!

Right girls, I've got to go and answer all the lovely comments from yesterday!

A message from Fr Frank and Jo

30/3/2020

Monday 30th March 2020

A message from Our Lady of Victories Church, Ballymun Road:

Greetings to you all from the Chaplaincy Team in Our Lady of Victories. We miss you all very much. Every day we pray for you and we hope that you are all keeping well. These are strange times for us all. We can be a bit frightened at times, but we must always have hope. We look forward to the day when we can go out and play with our friends, when we hug our grandparents, when we can go back to school. It is not easy at the moment but remember all this will pass. And once again we will be able to do the things that we planned to do and enjoy doing.

In the meantime, stay safe, watch out for one another and remember it’s the little things that we can do for each other that makes a big difference. Don’t forget to pray each day for all the people who are looking after us so well. Some of them are your parents, aunts and uncles. We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you back.

Take care, God bless.

My first video message!!!

30/3/2020

Good morning girls!!!

I had a lovely long video recorded for you all that just wouldn't upload on Friday- the file was too big! Here's a quick message just so you don't forget what I look like- although I'm not looking like my usual self these days- but I did put a bit of make-up on for you all!!!!

I hope you all managed to get out for some fresh air over the weekend. I had a great time on Friday night chatting to all my best friends on a video chat and on Saturday I played bingo online with some of the teachers from our school and the boys school! It was great fun!

I'm really busy today doing lots of jobs for the school online, but it's getting a bit chilly now so I'm going to pop off for a cup of tea. Don't forget to leave comments for your teacher- they are absolutely loving reading them and responding to them!

Slán,
Ms Greene

Food Art Challenge

27/3/2020

Ok girls, here's my challenge for this weekend! Ms Haughton found it online and I think it's brilliant! There is one important rule....you have to eat the food you use! We are all trying to be careful with money at the moment and under no circumstances are you allowed to waste food. So what do you have to do.......?

Well Dr Coy's are running a competition on their Instagram page (you can ask your parents to show you) where you have to create art with your food- I've put some of their examples below. I'm going to try it at the weekend and I'll post a picture on Monday!

Send me a photo of your 'Food Art' to [email protected] or your parents can upload it to Twitter and tag the school account @GirlsOlv. Don't forget to ask your parents to enter the competition on Dr Coy's instagram as well, if they have an account.

Good luck girls and have fun!! I'll be picking some winners on Tuesday!

Outdoor Treasure Hunt Challenge Winners!

27/3/2020

Good morning girls!

I hope you are all keeping well. I have a video message ready to go- it's just taking a loooooong time for it to upload! I might have been talking too much! So I wanted to show you some of the wonderful entries I got for my Outdoor Treasure Hunt Challenge. It was very hard to choose from all the entries but here are the winners! Well done girls! When we are back in school I will have prizes waiting for you in the office!

Thursday 26th March 2020
Good morning girls,

Well I had a bit of a disaster here yesterday- I couldn't access our website for hours and hours and I thought we were in big trouble! I was wondering how on earth I was going to get messages to you and set you more challenges. But we think it's nearly fixed- it's not 100% yet, but keep your fingers and toes crossed for us!

So I saw ALL your teachers yesterday!! We had a staff meeting via the ZOOM app. It was great to see everybody, and they are all keeping well. They miss you as much as I do! We are meeting again this morning to finalise a few things for you and we'll have a message ready for you and your parents later today.

I'll put up a video message for you in the morning! It will give me an excuse to put on some make up for the first time in two weeks! Work hard ladies and don't forget to get some fresh air.

Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning girls,

I hope you are all doing ok. We are starting the second week of our school closure, and it still feels very strange not to be seeing you all every day. I hope you all made your mammies feel very special yesterday. I went over to my mam's house and had to leave all her presents on the doorstep- I couldn't even give her a hug! We were a bit upset about it, but we know it's not going to be like this forever, we just have to keep our distance for another while.

So I hope the school work is going well- at least it's giving you something to do every day! Try and set aside time every day where you are working quietly and getting as much done as you can. I don't know if I'm going to see you next week- we have to wait and see what Leo Varadkar has to say!

I'll give you another few days to get my outdoor treasure hunt challenge completed.
Mind yourselves girls, and don't forget to wash your hands.
Slán,
Ms Greene

Friday 20th March 2020

Good morning ladies!

Isn't it a lovely day today! I went for a walk first thing this morning- it's much colder than it looks outside so make sure you wrap up when you go out for some fresh air. Yesterday my whole family did a group video call to sing happy 5th birthday to my nephew Ethan. It was very weird, because we normally all meet up when it's someone's birthday- we'll never forget this one anyway! And next week we have two more birthdays in the family, so more singing down the phone is planned!

So I was thinking- how about I set you a challenge every day to give you something to do if you get bored??? You don't have to do it- it's only if you are bored and fancy doing something different. The school have a Twitter account (@GirlsOlv) that your parents could send a photo of your completed task to if they have an account or they could email pictures in to us at [email protected]..... what do you think????

So my first challenge for you is an outdoor treasure hunt and you have the whole weekend to complete it!

This is what you need to find:
  1. Three different shaped leaves
  2.  A flat stone
  3.  Something that is soft
  4.  A stick longer than your hand
  5.  10 blades of grass
  6.  Something that is smaller than the nail on your thumb
  7.  Something that is brown

Good luck girls! Have a lovely weekend.
Slán,
Ms Greene

Thursday 19th March 2020

Good afternoon girls!

I've had such a busy day! Guess where I was? IN SCHOOL!!! I had to meet Ms Durnin in the office because we needed to go through a few things together, and I needed to pick up a few things so I can keep working at home. It was so strange being in there without any of you or the teachers. Myself and Ms Durnin couldn't even give each other a hug to say hello, and we had to stay 2 meters away from each other! It was all very unusual.

So I hope you are managing to get out for some fresh air every day with your family- especially today! The sun was shining in the Phoenix Park this morning, fingers crossed the sunshine is here for a while! Did you know that today is officially the Spring Equinox, which means that the nights start getting shorter and the days start getting longer- yahoo!

Oh and here's a picture of my office in my house....check out my footware!
Slán,
