Lá Fhéile Vailintín.

14/2/2017

Lá Fhéile Vailintín.
Bhí sagart óg ann darbh ainm Vailintín. Sagart cneasta ab ea é.Ni raibh cead ag na saighdiúirí óga i Róimh pósadh.Bhí brón ar Vailintín.Ba mhaith leis na daoine a bheith pósta.Rinne Vailinitín an pósadh faoin rún.Cuirtear i bpriosún é toisc gur lig dó na daoine óga phósadh.
Cuirtear an sagart óg Vailintín chun bás nuair a chuala an Rí cad a bhí á dhéanamh ag Vailintín. Ni raibh áthas ar an Rí Claudius 11 faoi seo.
Lá Fhéile Vailintín sona daoibh go léir.
The Roman Emperor Claudius II wanting to have a strong army of young soldiers banned marriage in Rome. The young soldiers were disappointed and wanted to marry their girlfriends .A young priest called Valentine, who was very kind liked to see young couples getting married. He wanted them to be happy. He performed the wedding for these young couples in secret. When the Roman Emperor heard about this he had Valentine captured and imprisoned. If Valentine renounced his faith and became a Roman he would be freed. But Valentine didn’t renounce his faith and was sentenced to death. He wrote letters to his friends from prison and asked to be prayed for by writing Remember your Valentine.
Another story tells us that Valentine cured the jail-keepers daughter from blindness. He touched the blind girl Julia’s brow and she was immediately granted her sight. It was a miracle!Valentine was killed on the 14th or the 24th of February in the year 269 or270. We celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14th in honour of St.Valentine.

The relics of St Valentine are in the Carmelite Whitefriar Street Church,Dublin.
Naomh Vailintín,guí orainn.

gOODBYE cARMEL!

26/1/2017

Today we said farewell to Carmel our wonderful cleaner who has worked in this school for over forty years!

Ms. Cassidy was very proud of Sarah and Anastacia who composed a great poem entitled "Goodbye Tension...Hello Pension" for Carmel and delivered it with style during her farewell ceremony.

Congratulations Carmel on your retirement. Room 7 wishes you tons of happiness in the years ahead!

Goodbye Tension...Hello Pension!

Now it’s time to say goodbye
We will miss you very much.
For all you do for us each day
You never once made a fuss!

You cleaned, you mopped day in day out
It was never a hassle to you.
You put a smile on everyone’s face
 by simply being you!

You left the school spick and span
Even the windows, pots and pans!
You led your team through the halls
and never once went off the walls!

Oh how fast the years have gone by
Many a principal, teacher and pupil have passed your eye.
Going around room to room
With your smile, laugh and sweeping broom.

We thank you for all that you have done
It is very much appreciated.
Hang up your mop, lie back and rest
and remember in OLV
you will always be the best!

Sixth class have worked really hard over the last few months on their fabulous projects about 'Life in Ancient Rome', 'Life in Ireland in 1966' and 'Women in History'. A huge amount of research was done to explore the culture, traditions, history, geography, economy and interesting facts about these topics.  The finished projects were of a very high standard and were accompanied by presentations in class. Maith sibh cailiní!

We were so fortunate to once again return to The Helix this Christmas to see another panto success with their hilarious adaptation of Aladdin.
A mystical genie, a flying carpet and an old lamp, a beautiful princess, irresistible baddies and an exotic trip to the Far East. It could only be the magical and much loved pantomime, Aladdin!
