On the 23rd of October 6th Class visited the Holy Spirit Primary School, Ballymun. We walked down and back which took about 10 minutes each way.
Brendan from Dublin Bus spoke to us first. He talked about safety around bases and how much damage it can cause if you throw a rock or stone at the windows.
After Brendan, we met Dave from the Fire Department. Dave told us about fireworks, bangers and bonfires. He told us some stories and showed us a video about a young boy named Shane who was about the same age as us. Shane's friends had been jumping over a bonfire and Shane didn't want to so he stepped out of the way. However, his friends had pushed him forward. When Shane made an attempt but didn't succeed the jump. He ended up in the bonfire and was brought to hospital. Shane was left with severe burns all over his body. Unfortunately, he is now left with life-threatening injuries.
When Dave had finished, Margaret from the DSCPA (Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) spoke to us. Margaret told us about how to keep your animals safe and not to bring them anywhere where there is a fire present.
Finally, Jennifer and Elaine spoke to us from the local Garda station about staying safe and out of trouble at Halloween. We learned that you can get fined €10,000 for lighting or aiming illegal fireworks or you can get sent to prison for five years. If you are a youth and can't go to prison your parent/guardian will go instead of you.

The girls had an eye opening experience at the Safety Talk and hopefully learned a lot about having a safe and enjoyable Halloween. We hope that everyone had a fun (and scary) Halloween!!
