As you can see from the picture below the girls were thrilled to welcome Sam Majuire to OLV. After four victories in a row, Ms. Cassidy hopes that next year we won't see Sam in our school as it will be residing in county Mayo! :) In room 7 we were delighted to start our very own book club. We gathered in groups to discuss, recommend and describe the book we read over the month. Each girl got to talk about their favourite part of the book and even got the chance to read their favorite passage from the book!
We are really looking forward to having a book club meeting each month. We can't stop reading and enjoying our novels! Room 8 were delighted to use the iPads for the first time this term. The iPads have lots of educational apps and games and it was really great fun trying them out. We worked in pairs and we must say it made Maths and English a lot more exciting than usual!!
We are looking forward to using them every Tuesday! We are so fortunate to be training with Leinster rugby star Juiliet Short who plays alongside our very own OLV star Ms. Farrell McCabe! Last week, an article about Juiliet featured in the Irish Times documenting her amazing and inspirational journey to wearing the Irish jersey (See link below). She truly is a role model for all the girls in our school and we wish both her and Ms. Farrell McCabe the very best of luck for the November test matches.
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/international/juliet-short-set-to-fulfil-her-dream-of-playing-for-ireland-1.3689910 We had a very spooky Halloween in third class this year! The girls learnt a scary Halloween poem as Gaeilge called 'An Púca'. AN PÚCA
“Púca! Púca! Is mise an púca! Púca! Púca! Aon-dó-trí! Seo í an oíche, Oíche Shamhna A théim ar cuairt chun do thí, Chun do thí!” “Púca! Púca! Ní tusa an púca! Tusa Seáinín Beag Ó Laoi! Seo í an oíche, Oíche Shamhna A bhíonn tú ag súgradh aon, dó, trí, Aon, dó, trí.” “Púca! Púca! Is mise an púca! Ní mise in aochor Seán Ó Laoi! Féach ar m’fhiacla! Féach im ’shúile Béarfaidh mé anocht ort, anocht a chroí, Béarfaidh mé anocht ort, anocht a chroí, Anocht a chroí!” What a busy week 3rd class had at the end of October! Aside from getting prepared for our annual Halloween dress up assembly the girls were guests of Dublin city council for the opening of Our Lady's Garden.
This space had become a magnet for unwanted goods and rubbish and the residents were determined to clean it up and create a space that would be more welcoming. Demonstrating their creative skills 3rd class created animals on stones using acrylic paint which they placed in the garden during the open ceremony. The girls also assisted the gardener by planting bulbs which will bloom in early spring. The idea is that as the garden blooms, it will be less likely to be targeted by littering and dumping. The garden is now a bright, clean and welcoming space where residents can sit down and take time to reflect. A picture of the girls along side an article written about the opening featured in the Dublin People paper. Please see link attacked: http://www.dublinpeople.com/news/northsidewest/articles/2018/11/02/4164254-pocket-gardens-are-helping-to-tackle-local-litter-blackspots/ We had our annual trip to the Botanic Gardens to see the Sculptures in Context Exhibition. The girls got to sketch their favourite sculptures and got to see the beauty of autumn whilst walking through the garden.
