After our Parent/Teacher Meetings we had a special afternoon to celebrate our success and good progress! Ms Smith had met with our parents and guardians and we all got good reports for our final P/T Meetings in primary school!

All the class waited outside the door, we were making a lot of noise because we were eager to find out what was in store for us.

When the door opened all the tables were lined up and there were pretty napkins, little cupcakes on cake stands and yummy biscuits. We all got to sit together, eating our treats and chatting to our classmates.
​It was a yummy afternoon!

In preparation for Christmas, our class made Christmas Wonderlands or Winter Wonderlands. We first used recycled materials for our projects. Some girls were very creative and used their own great ideas, e.g. fairy lights, pom poms, mistletoe and cotton wool. We worked very hard on our projects and some people got their parents, guardians and siblings involved!  It was a lot of fun making and decorating our projects. We displayed them on the stairs to our classroom, other classes admired our work and loved our ideas!
​Seasons Greetings!

On Friday the 24th of November, OLV went to see 'Beauty and the Beast' in the Helix.

We left the school at around 10am and walked to the Helix with our festive Christmas hats. We entered the Helix, took our places and waited until the Panto started.

When the Panto started everyone was full of excitement and there was so . There were songs from the charts, from Moana and some other musicals that we sang along to.

The show was funny and full of fantasy. Our teacher, Ms. Smith got a special mention as it was her birthday.

​ Although we were so sad that it was our last year to go to the Panto in OLV, we had an amazing time! We can't wait to hear what the girls are going to see next year! 

Our Science Week was the best! We tried cool experiments to do with electricity and we were so excited to try out different tests. We tried to make circuits and tested to see what connections from battery, to wire, to bulb worked or didn't work. This was a great experience for us, it was interesting and fun. We are excited to see what science is like in our secondary schools!

On the last day before the Halloween Break everyone in the whole school dressed up, it was lots of fun! We all paraded in our costumes around the hall, sadly it was our last year doing it but it was lots of fun! After the assembly everyone went back to their classes and had a party. In our class, Eabha brought in chocolate covered apples for each person in the class, they were really nice! We watched Hocus Pocus and had some treats. We had a great day!

As we were preparing for Halloween we created pumpkins and lanterns. They were both really fun an easy to make, all we used was paper or card, scissors and glue! 
When we were finished we hung them up on the stairs outside our classroom for everyone to see.  

In October, we completed our Peer Mediation Course. It is designed to help young people with conflict and to control their feelings and emotions.
We started the programme in 5th Class so we were delighted to finish the course with Sonya this year in 6th class. She helped us to help our classmates, and others, resolve disputes.
​We enjoyed our sessions with Sonya and hope to use these skills in the future!

In September 2017 we visited the Botanic Gardens to see the ‘Sculpture in Context’ exhibition. It was a really sunny day so we walked there and back.

​When we arrived at the Botanic Gardens, we met Vanessa, our guide. She brought us around the exhibition and told us about the sculptures. She told us how they were made using different materials and even showed us some that were hidden around the gardens.

There was a sculpture called, ‘God & Adam’ which was made out of recycled car tyres but looked like they were made out of bronze!
We saw little figures hanging down that we thought looked like pillows or ghosts, and people floating.
One of our favourite sculptures was ‘Blanket for the Ground’ by Maeve O’Donnell. She dedicated this to her grandfather, who was homeless. She designed a blanket out of fallen leaves and pillows from leaves and newspaper. We thought it was very special.
We saw ‘Submarine’ made from metal, a dustbin and lovely flowers!
We saw a sculpture that looked like it was just metal poles in a pond but Vanessa showed us that if you looked a certain way, the metal poles and the reflection in the water made a cube!
We found huge metal dinosaurs and had fun with them and coming up with names for them.
Vanessa showed us some little pottery sculptures by a tree and told us that they were based on a type of fungus that is found in nature. We had to be very careful not to stand on them!
There were sculptures that were like cameras in the gardens, that when you looked in at a certain angle we could see the gardens, trees, the glasshouses and each other on the other side.
We visited a big wooden beehive that we sat in and hummed to feel it vibrating around us.
All and all, we had a great trip and we look forward to the next one!
