Park stewardship is a program that helps children feel more connected to nature through fun activities such as scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and other outdoor games over nine weeks. In week one, we got to know the instructors and learned more about the area by identifying certain plants and learning about them. As the visits to the park went on, we got into doing more crafts, like making characters out of clay, sticks and pinecones, making candles using twine, clay, and nutshells, and painting using ink made from a tree, even catching bugs using special containers to look at them. In the second-to-last week, we went on a trip to Bull Island, where we learned about animals and plant species that live there. We even got a chance to play on the beach.

Celebrating SuccessWe had so much to celebrate during a Christmas assembly, from our very talented pupils' achievements to hat-making, gymnastics, GAA, and their arts and crafts creations, giant loomband making, book making, and poem reading. December Principal Award Winners100% attendance from September to December. Well done, girls🎶 School Christmas ConcertOur annual Christmas Concert will take place next Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th at 11:30am on both days. They should be finished in plenty of time to collect younger children from the Infant School. I would ask that wherever possible pre-school children, babies and toddlers are not brought to the concert as we have very limited space for buggies, and children of such young ages can find the noise levels and crowds distressing. Most costumes will be provided by the school. Your daughter’s class teacher will have contacted you if any additional items (e.g., tights, tops) are required We look forward to welcoming you as the children showcase their wonderful performances and help us celebrate this special time of year. Entry to the concert is €5 per person. We ask that you please bring CASH on the day. 🎵 Concert Information:🎁 Christmas RaffleOur Christmas Raffle Tickets are on sale.
🎄 Christmas Jumper Day – 17th December 2025:This year, we are raising funds for the Laura Lynn Foundation. We kindly ask for a contribution of €2 per family on the day. 📅 School Closure & Reopening:The school will close at 11:40 am on Friday, 19th December, for the Christmas holidays and will reopen on Monday, 5th January, at 8:50 am.
If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to contact your daughter’s class teacher. Thank you for your continued cooperation and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing you at the concert and celebrating together. Wishing all our families a joyful and peaceful Christmas season! With the end of November here, we have had another busy month in the school. The girls have been getting excited about the Christmas concert, having auditioned for roles in the play, learning their lines and lyrics, and have already started rehearsals on the big stage. It is a big production, and we cannot wait for you all to attend the concerts and see how talented everyone is when they perform for you. Another big event at our school in November is our annual whole-school trip to the Panto in the Helix. This year, the incredible Lola, Buddy, Laurel and friends put on the fantastic ‘The Snow Queen’. It was a play on the movie Frozen, with Jack Frost as the villain. The show tied in many of 2025 pop culture references and songs, from Frozen, K-pop Demon Hunters, Lady Gaga, giant dancing La Bubu Dolls, unboxing trends, the great Troy Parrott hat-trick goal that got Ireland into the play-offs for the World Cup, and, of course, the famous ‘67’ reference. Lola even interacted with two of our staff members who were close to the stage. Isn't that right, Paddy and Mary? The girls had an absolute blast, singing and dancing throughout the show, and are already looking forward to which show they will see with Lola, Buddy, and Laurel next year. Our November assembly was jam-packed with students coming up to ‘Celebrate Success’, where they could show the whole school anything they have achieved in competitions or activities, from GAA, dance, football, and gymnastics. We also encourage our students to showcase their creativity, such as drawings, knitting, loom band making, homemade squishy creations, writings, poems and even Christmas decorations. We are so proud of every student for their hard work and courage in showing what they have achieved. Congratulations to all students who had 100% attendance in November, and to our Principal award winners.
October has been an exciting month in school for the girls.
Our GAA team made it to the quarter finals. Sadly, we were defeated, but we are so, so proud of all the girls for making it so far in the tournament. They played their hearts out! Rugby blitz - Our 5th and 6th-class girls have been doing weekly rugby lessons. On October 22nd, they competed in a Rugby blitz, playing in small teams against each other. The girls had a wonderful time putting into practice all they had learned over the weeks. Library visits - Our 2nd- and 3rd-class girls had a lovely trip to the local library, where they were read a book and taught about how the library works and the activities available to the public. The girls had so much fun! And of course, the highlight of October is celebrating Halloween in style. All girls dress up in their fabulous costumes and show them off around the hall in our Halloween Parade. Don't forget about the best-dressed contest; the whole school, staff included, had a brilliant time celebrating with music and treats. (P.S. Pictures to come.) We hope all members of our OLV community have a lovely Halloween and enjoy the mid-term break. Be safe and see you all in November.
Our senior GAA team from both 5th and 6th classes have played in 3 matches so far this month. For some of the girls, it is their very first time competing in any game. We are very proud of the hard work all girls have put into the training and on match days, and we can't wait to see how you get on during the rest of the school year. Our 4th and 5th-class girls competed in cross-country running at DCU Park on September 24th. All girls had a fun day at the event, and big congratulations to two of our students for placing in the top 10 among all schools attending. Bí Cinéalta poster competition winners announced during assembly. Well done to all who participated. It was so hard for Ms Greene to decide between all our talented artists. We had our students' council elections in each classroom from the 3rd class onwards. Every student who wanted to run for council had the opportunity to campaign in their own class, either with posters or speeches. Afterwards, all classes voted for who they would like to elect as the second council member in their class. The second council member is a randomised selection. Congratulations to all girls who have received Principal awards at the first assembly of the school year. |
