Our two third classes, Ms Rowleys and Ms Fitzgeralds have been attending Camogie lessons in Setanta in Ballymun for the last 6 weeks. The lessons start with the girls enjoying a game of bulldog to warm up before getting their helmets on for safety. They have learned how to swing their hurley, hit the sliotar and pass to each other through techniques and games the wonderful coach taught during their lessons. The girls have enjoyed these lessons and a few of the girls have even decided to join their local camogie team. Well done girls!

Hello, my name is Layah. I'm in 5th class Ms. Reids and this is my NFL experience. Ms. Haughton told us that the school was involved in a new NFL Flag pilot project and that there were going to be some trials for the first NFL Flag team in the school. Lots of girls from 5th and 6th classes joined and we practiced all the new skills for two weeks before the final team was chosen. When I was told that I had made the final team, I was very surprised because I was the only person from 5th that got chosen out of all the boys and girls. After that, we started training every single day until the 6th of December when the Championship took place in Sports Ireland Campus. The day before this, a film crew actually came to our school to film us training and interview us about the experience. We were all so nervous but we did it - check out the video on youtube here ! On the day of the Championship, we were all so excited but nervous. We played so well and topped our group in the first round! Unfortunately we got knocked out in the semi-finals, however we had such a great time and I was so proud of myself and made great new friends with my teammates.
First, got our jackets. Then, we lined up to walk to the nursing home. When we got there, we sang each of the Christmas songs we had practiced TWICE - it was really fun! I had a good time. Finally, we got lots of sweets as a thank you from the staff (lucky us!) Sadly we had to go back to school, so we said goodbye and told the residents we would visit again later in the school year. They said they had lots of board games including mega Jenga. It was a great day and showed us the true meaning of Christmas!
- Nevaeh, Room 1 It's finally Christmas time in OLV! 🎄
Every class has their performances nearly ready and is practising very hard while also having so much fun. They can not wait to act, sing and dance to their heart's content next week on show day for all the parents and guardians to see. The list of shows we have is:
My name is Freija and I am going to tell you about swimming. As part of our physical education in OLV we attend 10 weeks of swimming lessons. We have our swimming lessons in the Ballymun swimming pool every Friday. During the first lesson, the instructors test all the students in the smaller pool to see what swimming level group to put everyone in. They teach you how to control your breathing while swimming and all the different swimming strokes.
One of my favourite parts of swimming is when we swim to the bottom of the pool and pick up the weighted block to bring to the surface. Our swimming coaches are really nice and give us time at the end of the lesson to go play with our friends in the smaller pool before we have to get ready to return to school. So far 5th and 6th classes have done their swimming lessons this school year and 4th and 3rd classes will start their swimming lessons in the new year.
