To celebrate Halloween in OLV we had an annual Halloween parade. Each class gets to parade around the hall to show off all the fabulous and creative costumes they wear. The girls love the parade and getting the chance to show off their costumes to the rest of the school in style. The girls even got the chance to see all the staff dressed up as the characters of Inside Out 2 this year.

In October, our fifth and sixth classes visited the National Museum of Ireland: Archaeology. The girls got to explore and learn about Ancient Egypt, The Vikings in Ireland, the Battle of Clontarf and many more wonderful artefacts that were on display in the exhibitions. After a lovely trip, the girls then got to enjoy their lunches before heading to the playground in St. Stephens Green across from the museum to finish off the day before returning to school.
Hello from Sofia and Inari. We are both in third class in OLV and we are going to tell you about our visit to the Ballymun Garda Station. We started our trip in the lobby where we were met by 3 Garda who brought us on a tour of the station. They brought us into a room where you get taken if you were arrested. Here, there was a doorway that led to three cells. We got to go into the cells and sit on the beds. This is not a nice place to be. Afterwards, we got to go outside. Where there was so much going on. We got to get into the back and front of the Garda trucks and vans and sit on the motorbike. They even let us turn on the sirens! We were able to put on helmets, hats and safety gear and we got to hold the guns too (with safety pins on!). Our favourite part was holding the shields because they were so big. Another favourite part was getting to honk the horns. We got to ask loads of questions, one was can a Garda arrest another Garda, which we found out can happen! We found out the reason the chairs have to be sealed to the floors in the rooms is to stop prisoners from walking with the chairs attached to their cuffs. It was really fun and if we got the chance to go back, we would love that!
We were delighted for Ms Reids and Ms Tuomey's fifth classes to be invited to the Fighting Words Library on the 1st of October for a creative writing workshop. The girls got a chance to brainstorm a story as a group by choosing the characters and setting and then they created the start of a story together. This was published for the girls to bring home in booklets with the chance to finish it themselves. The girls had a great time during the workshop.
