Easter Celebrations 24/25

30/4/2025

We had so much fun celebrating with the Easter bonnet and egg competition on the last day at school before the Easter break. We were blown away by the number of students who entered, and we even had to add more tables to the display; there was so much! The girls who created easter bonnets did a short parade around the hall to show off their work. We were amazed by the talent and creativity of every entry. Everyone who entered got a small treat, and competition winners got big Easter eggs or vouchers! We also had a raffle in which every student got a chance to win a prize.
Some teachers even arranged Easter egg hunts in different areas of the school with their classes. The students had a good day, and all left for their holidays with fun memories and smiles.

International Week. 2025

International week was very important in our school as we have students from 30 different countries and this was an opportunity for them to teach us about the customs and traditions of their country. We had an assembly where the girls could wear traditional clothing or bring items representing their country. We had a student from New Zealand wearing an ‘all blacks’ rugby jersey, a Scottish family colour tartan kilt, Indian sarees, and Polish traditional clothing the girls told us they wore to celebrations. Girls got up and sang the Ukrainian national anthem and performed dances from their country. It was a wonderful time this week to celebrate, and we had other fun activities that Ms Behan had organised throughout the week for everyone to enjoy.

Yesterday, our junior 24/25 GAA team, comprised of girls from our 3rd and 4th classes, had their first match in Johnstown Park. They had been working hard in training over the last few months and were all excited to play. For some girls, it was their first match on any team, and they scored one goal and one point. Everyone played brilliantly. We couldn't be prouder of them all! Well done, girls!!!

Céile 2025

Hi, my name is Karolina, and mine is Lexi. We are in second class. This is our first céile in OLV in front of our parents. In our class, we had to practice our song, ‘Micilín Muc’. We liked the part where we practised the movement. We also learnt a dance called ‘Sail agus Barraicín’ that Ms. Smith taught us. Both second classes danced together.

On the day of the céile, the whole school had to wear green, white, and orange. The show started with the 6th class doing a dance. After that, it was our turn to dance to Sail agus Barraicín with the other second class, then Micilín Muc by ourselves. Each class year performed an Irish dance and a showpiece.
3rd - irish poem
4th - an Irish song
5th - The Irish haka
6th class did another performance to say goodbye.

For the first time, parents who were at the show got to learn one of the Irish dances with their child and had a lovely time dancing together as one big céile!

Cycle Right Training. - 4th classes Room 1 & 7

2/4/2025

Both of our fourth classes participated in a ten-week cycling training course. This was an excellent opportunity for everyone, both confident and unsure of their cycling ability, to participate and learn to cycle. After a few weeks, a course was set out in the yard for the girls to know the best ways to navigate the roads whenever they will use them when cycling. The girls had a fantastic time doing this training and always had positive feedback whenever asked how the training was going. On the last day, the girls went out in groups with their teachers, Ms. Farrell and Ms. George, to put to the test the cycle road safety they learned with the trainers. The girls had the best time, and were sad when the training ended.
