On October 10th, 4th Class Room 3 started the Roots of Empathy program. The class met Martina and her baby son Riain. He is 3 months and 1 week old. They had a great time interacting with him, singing him songs and watching him on the green mat!

For the rest of the year, Martina and Riain will come in every 3 weeks. They girls will watch him grow and change, and learn how babies communicate their wants and needs nonverbally. They will also learn about caring for a baby. The program will also on their feelings and the feelings of others, and help to develop their empathy.

Room 3 are really excited to watch Riain develop and grow! The girls have predicted that he might be able to roll over by the next time he comes in!

4th class are learning all about the power of nature! The children read and watched videos about drinking water treatment plants. Afterwards, they investigated the effectiveness of filtering water and oil and water with dirt with coffee filter paper.

As many of the groups predicted, the coffee filter paper could not filter the oil due to it being a liquid. However, the filter paper did quite a good job of filtering the dirt!

The girls really enjoyed working as scientists during this investigation!
