SPORTS DAY 2017!

28/6/2017

On Tuesday the 20th and Friday the 23rd of June, our Sports Days took place in Albert College Park and our school. The whole of the girls school participated. We had to split it over 2 days because we had to share the premises with the boys and because of weather complications.

On Tuesday, we headed over to Albert College Park for the fun part of Sports Day. There were five activities : the relay race, the potato and spoon race, the sack race, the three-legged race and a GAA shootout.

We started with the relay race. While waiting for the next activity, we played 'Capture the Treasure'. One girl is the 'Treasure Keeper' while certain girls are chosen to capture the treasure. Next was the GAA shootout. Miss Cassidy's team beat Miss Bourke's team by one point. We then went to the sack race. Lots of children loved this. We then went to the potato and spoon race. Everyone had lots of fun. Last but not least, it was time for the three-legged race. Millie and Kelsey won. What an exhausting day!

On Friday, we had the Athletic half of Sports Day! There was a parachute game, a target throw, basketball, GAA penalties, a rest station and hockey. We couldn't do the long jump, 100m race & 400m sprint due to weather conditions, unfortunately. The first thing we did was the parachute game.Sadly, they couldn't find the parachute so we played dodge ball instead.Team A won two rounds.

We then went to basketball. We shot hoops and played a match. We hurried to the GAA shootout. We had four goalkeepers. Afterwards, we went to chill out in the rest station or, (as Miss Holden called it!) the music station! We sang along to some of our favourite songs. Hockey was next. We were divided into two groups : red and yellow! The red team won. Lastly, we had the target throw. Some girls got very high scores!

We had two very exhausting days, but we loved them, even so. Thanks for reading!

OLV FOOTBALL TEAM 2016-2017

Hi! My name is Elizabeth Luca and I'm about to tell you about our football team!

This team was formed in October 2016. It might have been cold but it was worth it.

Ms.Callinan and Ms.Ferriter were our coaches and the 5th & 6th classes took part.

We trained after school at 2:30 at the boys pitch with our trainer Gerry. He helped us with a lot of skills that were hard initially but soon we got the hang of them!!

Miss Callinan and Miss Ferriter wanted to make a football team because we didn't have a football team in our school for a long time. I thought it was a great idea because a lot of people interested in sport would join.

It was great being a football team member. We were entered into a football league! The people organising the league got mixed up and they entered us in Division 4! It was very hard but we never gave up. Sadly we didn't win any matches in Division 4 but at least we tried and we grew stronger as a team!

About a month later teacher told us some exciting news! We got into the Football Blitz! I was really excited when I got picked to go. When it was finally the time to go we got on the bus with some other schools and headed off. When we arrived at Ballymun Kickham's ground everyone ran out heading to the field. After that the referee came up to us and told us that we were playing our first match. A while later we were finished playing the matches and waited to see what happened next. The referee came back and told us we were in the final! We could barely believe it! We practiced for a bit and when it was time we were ready! The other team were really tough opposition. They won but we really tried our best! We had to sit down for a presentation and listen to the bus manager and Mr Christie speak. We then got medals and sweets on the way home. It was great fun.At least we made it into the final and won our first ever match! We were so thrilled and Ms.Callinan was so so proud of us!

I really would recommend for others to join our team next year. It was really fun playing the leagues and blitz. I can't wait to resume training next year!
 Come on OLV ladies!

Goodbye ,
Elizabeth Luca

oUR SCHOOL TOUR 5TH CLASS

This recount is about when we went on our school tour. It took place on the 19th of June.We went to the Odeon in Charlestown for bowling, the Cinema and KFC. Ms.Ferriter's class,Ms.Crowe,MS.Rooney and Ms.Callinan accompanied us to the Odeon in Charlestown.

First of all we went on the bus to get there. We used leap cards
and money to pay for the bus. There were two separate lines-one-for money and one for leap cards. We sat on the top deck of the bus. We talked and laughed. When we got there we waited for the bowling alley to open so we could start playing. There were ten teams-one for each lane. We were split into five teams and then we put our bowling shoes on. We got amazingly high scores!

Afterwards we went to see "Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Long Haul". We got a special screening just for us! We picked out where we wanted to sit and then we unloaded our snacks and sweets. Five minutes later the movie started! We loved watching with all of our friends. We especially loved the part with diaper hands. We laughed our heads off during half the movie.

Finally we went to KFC for some lunch. We had a choice of popcorn chicken or burgers. We also had drinks with a choice of pepsi, club orange or 7up. Afterwards everyone got ice-cream. Then we got back on the bus
same process as the last time. We sang songs and had so much fun. We got back to school at 3:00pm.

It was a perfect school trip for us!We wonder if next years trip will be as exciting and enjoyable!
