4th class recently went to the 'I am Irish' exhibition which is currently running in the Axis Centre. With growing racial tensions across the globe and the emergence of far right groups in Ireland, #IamIrish challenges perceptions of what it looks like to be Irish in 2017. Through this exhibition we explored Identity, Race, Culture and Heritage. Inspired by a persisting lack of representation of the Black Irish experience, Lorraine Maher launched the project to celebrate a more diverse representation of Irish identity and to question the concept of ‘Irishness’ and what that means for Irish communities today. This project maps the roots, the lives and experiences of Irish people of mixed heritage creating a unique opportunity to challenge perceptions of what it looks like to be Irish and open up people’s minds to the diversity of Irish people. How lucky our 4th class girls are! They along with other children in the area have been selected by the DIT Ballymun Music Programme to preform two songs at their 21st Anniversary fundraising concert which takes place on Tuesday 24th of October at 8pm in the Axis Center. See axisballymun.ie for further details. Our girls are wonderful singers so a great night is in store for all! |
