Carol Singing at Beneavin Nursing Home - Ms. Farrell's 4th Class

First, got our jackets. Then, we lined up to walk to the nursing home. When we got there, we sang each of the Christmas songs we had practiced TWICE - it was really fun! I had a good time. Finally, we got lots of sweets as a thank you from the staff (lucky us!) Sadly we had to go back to school, so we said goodbye and told the residents we would visit again later in the school year. They said they had lots of board games including mega Jenga. It was a great day and showed us the true meaning of Christmas!

STEAM Eyes Winners 2024

I want to say a BIG thank you to all of the girls who entered the STEAM eyes competition. I had lots of wonderful entries but could only pick three winning entries. We announced our winners at assembly this morning and you can look at these fantastic entries below.

STEAM Week 2024

This week we will be celebrating STEAM in OLVGNS. The girls will take part in a range of science, technology, engineering, art and maths activities. The poster you can see below is for our STEAM eyes competition. The girls are asked to take a picture that demonstrates STEAM in the world around them. They explain how their picture relates to STEAM and parents can send their entry to their class teacher or [email protected]. Closing date is this Friday 3rd May with prizes to be won!
Below is the link to the slideshow that was used to explain the concept to your daughter in class that you can refer to

OLV Girls are having our first ever STEAM week. There are lots of events and activities planned to get us engaged with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Click HERE to see our fantastic STEAM page for more details on what's in store!

Testing  Week 15th - 19th May

We've all been working so hard in school this year.

Standardised tests are a way for our teachers to see our progress, to see if we might need some support in English or Maths or if we need to be challenged more.
We can't really prepare for this tests, but, what we can do is get a good night sleep beforehand and try our best on the day.

We try to stay calm and breathe if we're feeling nervous. We can do breathing exercises or grounding exercises if we're feeling anxious.
It's only May so not everything has been covered just yet and you may have forgotten stuff covered from Term 1!

These tests do not measure how kind you are, how good you are to your friends, how much you help out at home, how hard you work in school, how good at sport you are, how creative you are. They do not measure your worth.

Try your best, breathe - your teacher is proud of you no matter what!

🧮 ➖📐✖️⚖️  Maths Week 2022 📉 ➗ 📏➕⚖️

Maths Week was from 13th - 21st October 2022

Here in OLV we had a math-tastic week! Ms Haughton made a Maths Week Board which was so fun! There were riddles, quizzes, Guess the Teacher (using maths facts). We all had a good look at her sweet jar and tried to guess how many sweets were in it!

On Monday the whole school played bingo! Sixth Class girls, called out the numbers carefully - some of them had funny phrases! Room 4, Ms Reid's 6th class won when all their numbers were called out!

On Tuesday, we explored Maths Trails around the School Grounds. We gathered data in the car park, did traffic surveys on the street  and looked at shop receipts. Maths is all around us!

On Wednesday, we had OLV's first ever Measures Day! Each classroom had it's own Measure - Length, Weight, Money, Time, Capacity and we all got to move around for experiments and activities! It was so fun
On Thursday, we had Maths 4 Fun! Some of our parents came in to play Uno with our classes and teach us how to play. It was so nice having them getting involved and seeing us in our classes!
On Friday, the 'Guess the Sweet' challenge was announced. There was a whopping 274 sweets packed into that little jar! Savanna Dolan in 5th class was the closest in the whole school with her guess of 269. She won the ENTIRE jar of sweets! Congratulations Savanna!

We also had a fun Maths quiz, with questions from sums, symbols and shapes to number of singles of pop singers and TikTok Stars! We listened as our Quiz Mistresses Lorena and Emma from 6th class went through the questions over the intercom!
We listened closely as Ms Haughton announced the winners! In 3rd place was Room 10, joint 2nd place were Room 4 and Room 1, and the MATHS QUIZ CHAMPIONS in Joint 1st place were Room 9 and 16!  They won a Movie and Popcorn Party Pass, congratulations!

Finally was our Maths Eyes competition, you could send in an example of maths in the world around you or making maths and sums using things around your house! Check out these AMAZING entries from Lucy, Amelia and Róan! Well done, girls!
Thank you so much to Ms Haughton for organising such a fun Maths Week for us all!

🥳 First Assembly of the School Year! 🥳

On Friday 30th September, we had our first OLV GNS assembly of the school year 2022/2023 together in the hall.

🙏
Ms Fleming and 6th class, Room 9, led a prayer service welcoming us all together. We gave thanks to all who help us in the school, we welcomed our 2nd class students and any new students that have joined our school community this year!

🏅 What a crowd!! We had awards for good attendance in September, well done to the girls coming to school on time everyday! We are so proud of our 6th class girls setting a great example for the whole school!
Ms Greene asked that if you are absent to bring a note to your teacher to explain why.
✍️

❤️💚 We cheered on the GAA Team as they prepare for the Cuman na mBunscoil Quarter Finals! GO ON OLV!
Picture
📜 Ms Greene's Principal Awards were announced! There was excitement around the hall as girls cheered for their fantastic friends when their names were called. These girls were so proud of themselves with awards going for friendship, hard work, manners, getting a good start to the school year and super attitudes to learning!
