WOW action day

The action day went ahead on February 4th, with great success.  Unfortunately our planned event had to be postponed in January due to the severe bad weather.  We had a small WOW walk last Wednesday when 12 brave pupils endured the sleet and strong winds to walk the planned route.  Read all about our Healthy Walk to School Campaign and see us in action in the Green Schools Page.  To find our Green Schools page scroll up, click INITIAITVES, and then click GREEN SCHOOLS.

Next Wednesday, January 28th, Our Lady of Victories Girls School Community will make a special effort to win our 4th Green Flag for Transport.  We have been working towards this flag for the past two years.  We will meet at the Old Ballymun Shopping Centre car park at 8:20am and walk together to OLV School.  For parents who need to drive from further away, there are lots of parking spaces since most of the shops are closed down.  We ask parents not to park near the school on Wednesday since it is a car free day.
There will be prizes for the class in which most people walked.  Please bring flags, banners, balloons to show that we are trying to be fit and we care for the planet.
We will have fun activities in the school grounds, and a prize for the oddest socks!
Do your best to walk, carpool, park and stride or use the bus to get to school for the rest for the year as it is better for our health and for the environment.

Rock around the flock

On Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 the whole school community gathered in Our Lady of Victories school hall to celebrate "Rock around the Flock".  This was a lively, modern, musical production of the Nativity, directed by Dave Mahon from Magic of Music, and it really put us all into the Christmas Spirit.

Pupils from all eight classes sang like a heavenly choir and musicians from most classes played uplifting Christmas tunes on their tin whistles, which greatly added to our enjoyment of the show. The youngest girls were so cute in their lovely sheep costumes.

The angels brought great news to Mary.
"The Holy Spirit will come and you will give birth to a son, a holy child.  He will be the Son of God and you should call Him Jesus" said Angel Gabriel.

Angels arrived again on the night Jesus was born.  They were very happy to tell the shepherds outside Bethlehem about the new baby saviour:  "He will be king and his kingdom will last forever", they sang with great joy.

The shepherds were so excited.  "What! Such good news!" "We must hurry to the stable to welcome the baby Jesus"  They had nowhere to buy a present for the baby at that hour of the night.  So these talented shepherds had a great idea.  "I am a shepherd, I have come to welcome the baby" they said to Joseph and Mary.  So they played a sweet lullaby for the baby Jesus to help Him go to sleep.  What a gift for His tired parents!

The young parents were busy minding their new baby and were glad to welcome their first visitors, the shepherds.  "Mary, are you ok? Is there anything wrong with you? asked Joseph.  "No I'm fine, I'm just so tired" said Mary.  Cheered up the the shepherds lovely music she brought the house down with her own beautiful song.

On the night of Jesus' birth a bright star stopped above the stable where He was born.  Wise people had waited for this sign for hundreds of years.  Everyone who saw the star was very excited. They all sang and cheered with delight.  "Lets follow this wonderful star" "We must hurry to Bethlehem."
Picture
Three wise kings had followed this star from far away countries.  They knew a new king was born so they brought him special presents. "We are in Bethlehem to deliver special presents to baby Jesus of Mirrh and Frankinsense." " I would like to help Him for His future with this gift of gold" they told Mary and Joseph.

Everybody rushed to Bethlehem to welcome the baby Jesus and there wasn't room to move.  Happy voices sang all our favourite Christmas songs.  The new baby Jesus brought so much happiness into the world.

Rock around the Flock was a show to delight all ages.  The music, singing and acting mad the whole audience very happy.  We all rejoiced for the birth of the Baby Jesus.

This beautiful rendering of "Oíche Chiúin" reminds us of how the same song "Stile Nacht" stopped World War I for Christmas Day exactly one hundred years ago. Surely a song from God.

Musicians from OLV School of Rock performed a medley of well known Christmas songs on their guitars and keyboards.  All their early morning rehearsals paid off as both cast and audience joined them in singing the Christmas favourites.  Everyone showed their appreciation of their talent and hard work.  We are very grateful to Dave for directing such a wonderful show and to the teachers and parents who helped all the pupils to perform to the best of their ability.
Happy New Year to all the Our Lady of Victories School Community.
